The Launch of the Nehemiah Gibson1



Ship Panama, Pettengill, from New York for San Francisco, put into Rio Janeiro rth ult, from hat cause not stated, and proceeded 6th ult, Lanes reported master.

Launch - An excellent oak built vessel of 691 tons, with two decks, will be launched today (Wednesday) at high water from the yard of Messrs. Curtis and Smith, at East Boston. She is named the Nehemiah Gibson, and rates A1 for 9 years. Capt. John Devereux, the inspector for American Lloyds, and Capt. Eben Howes, the inspector of French Lloyds, speak of her in very high terms as a very superior vessel.

Launched from BF Rice's shipyard at Sandy Point, ME, on the 31st ult, a fine model, well built schr. called the "Sandy Point," 124 tons, designed for the coasting trade; owned by B.F. Rice and others, and to be commanded by Capt. Samuel Grant of Stockton, who is also part owner.
